It’s a new dawn, it’s a new day, it’s a new Dáil, it’s half a shuffle further to the right.
Oh, I don’t know. Perhaps I’m being too cynical. Perhaps these information-overloaded arteries are denying my heart hope. I don’t feel like we’re ramping things up, creating the fairy-tale Ireland 2.0 out of innovation, clarity, and a trimmed and tidy ball sack. I don’t even feel like we’re stripping things down, going back to basics, redefining our nation and selves. We’re turf... Continue reading ...

A few of us were sitting around yammering the other day, all high spirits, and some 40% proof ones, too. Conversation turned, naturally, to that very Irish kind of one-upmanship that centres around perceived disadvantage and struggle. Like the Four Yorkshiremen, minus the hard-earned success to validate such shameless, misty-eyed misery.

We share an irreverent sense of humour, a spirited mouthiness, and an unfortunate fondness for sweet-shop rubbish, but my best friend and I are two very different people. I'm prone to ranting, tend to be overly sentimental about lyrics, and am very dismissive of genre fiction. She's addicted to celebrity gossip, has too many pairs of pyjamas, and spends far too long in the shower.
I often joke that someone who cares that much about the Kardashians should be kept under house arrest. She often ... Continue reading ...

I spent last night watching the aftermath of the apocalypse, letting my mind wander through the barren wastes, and wondering in which remote bunker hope had hidden itself. What? No, not GE11’s Leaders’ Debate! I was playing Fallout: New Vegas!
Like, fuck, I have a life.
It’s because I have a life I feel the need to avoid the news as much as possible. Though saying that, I do check The Journal in hourly intervals, making this sentence’s predecessor a dirty hairy lie. I suppose a more acc... Continue reading ...

Internet
One of the Galwegians travelled down to see and drink with us in our Cork gaff over the weekend.
She wouldn’t be as entrenched in Teh Internets as we would be, now. She’d use her online time for things like sending emails, checking Facebook, downloading e-books, that kind of faffery. On the other hand, we spend our virtual life RTing viral links, throwing obscure catchphrases at each other, and calling out prepubescent lardarses for their lack of gaming etiquette.
This is why she couldn... Continue reading ...
